10 Fashion Hacks That Will Save You Time & Money

10 Fashion Hacks That Will Save You Time & Money

Here are ten easy fashion hacks that can help your wardrobe last longer, look better, and save you both time and money in the process!

1. Don’t wash denim after every wear

Washing jeans too often fades the colour, weakens the fibres, and shortens their lifespan, and you actually really don’t need to wash denim as often as other fabrics. Between wears I recommend airing them out, spot cleaning if you do spill anything or find a mark or stain, and only wash when they need it.

2. Use a bobble machine to refresh knitwear

A small fabric shaver can make a bobbly jumper look brand new again. It removes the bobbles and fluff, instantly making knitwear look fresh and it’s also really satisfying to do.

3. Steam instead of ironing

A handheld steamer is quicker than ironing and gentler on fabrics. You can steam clothes while they’re hanging, which saves time and avoids heat damage on delicate materials – plus I would rather steam over standing at an ironing board any day!

4. Use laundry bags for delicates

Mesh laundry bags protect bras, knitwear, and fine fabrics from stretching, snagging, and tangling in the wash. Your clothes last longer and come out looking better – this is something I’ve been trying to get better at as it does make such a difference.

5. Button and zip clothes before washing

Fastening buttons and zips helps garments keep their shape and prevents metal parts from catching on other items in the machine.

6. Turn clothes inside out before washing

This protects the outer surface of your clothes from friction, fading, and damage, especially on dark colours, prints, and items with any embroidery.

7. Spot clean instead of full washing

If there’s just a small mark, use a damp cloth and mild soap to clean the area rather than washing the whole item. It saves time, water, and wear on the fabric, and more often than not, the rest of the garment is still perfectly clean and wearable.

8. Create outfit formulas

Pick a few go to outfit combinations that always work for you. It saves decision time in the morning and helps stop impulse buying when you feel like you’ve got nothing to wear. I love helping people utilise what they already have over buying new things all the time.

9. Tailor pieces you own for a better fit

A small tailoring tweak can make something you like into something you love. It’s unlikely you’ll pick up a clothing item from a rack and it fit you perfectly, so tailoring can offer you that perfect fit.

Tailoring is also an affordable way to make clothing look far more expensive. Adjusting sleeve length, hems, or waist fit often makes the biggest difference.

10. Store knitwear folded

Hanging jumpers stretches them out and ruins their shape over time. Folding them keeps them looking better for longer and if you store them folded in drawers, it’s so much easier to see what you have at a glance.

Looking after what you already own is one of the easiest ways to save money, reduce waste, and make your wardrobe work harder for you.
